BOTOX® Cosmetic (Onabotulinum Toxin A) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe crow’s feet lines and frown lines, as well as vertical lip lines and turn down at the lips in adults. Botox blocks the release of a substance called acetylcholine. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe wrinkles to form. Botox is a non-surgical procedure that gives you a fresher, younger looking appearance.
The medicine in Botox injections is FDA approved and is a very popular treatment for improving the look of fine lines and wrinkles. As with any cosmetic procedure, there is a risk of side effects, but according to dermatological studies these side effects occur in less than 1% of cases. The vast majority of side effects are simple and temporary, disappearing in just a few weeks. Rarely, some patients are allergic to BOTOX® Cosmetic. At Abby Dental, we are highly trained, medical professionals who are educated in the nerves and anatomy of the head and neck. Injections can be mildly uncomfortable, but they only take a few seconds to administer.
You can read more on the official BOTOX® Cosmetic website about Botox safety.
Botox is approved for people aged 18 – 65. Of course, it is most effective if you actually have visible wrinkles, and therefore it is unlikely those below the age of 25 will benefit from the treatment. Women who are pregnant or who hope to become pregnant, who are breast-feeding, and people who are taking certain antibiotics, have neuromuscular disorders or an allergy to BOTOX® – should not have injections. Before administering Botox, we will perform a detailed consultation in order to determine if this treatment is right for you.

Unlike traditional facelifts, these procedures can be done without general anesthesia, and patients often need only a day to recover. Bruising rarely occurs and fades naturally. As with all our services, Abby Dental aims to give you a stress-free experience in a relaxing atmosphere.
Results may vary by patient, but effects begin to be visible after two to three days, and are usually fully evident by one week. Improvements in facial appearance and muscle relaxation typically last three to four months. One treatment will provide you with a more youthful and relaxed appearance. For longer lasting results, it is recommended to have three Botox treatments, as this will show a remarkable long-lasting change. Regular touch-ups every four to six months are recommended.
