FAQ

Why would I need an extraction?

Our Dentists would recommend having a tooth removed if and when:

  • Your tooth cannot be repaired
  • An abscess is present and you choose not to do a root canal
  • If another option (implant or bridge) will last longer than saving the tooth
  • If the bone surrounding the tooth has been significantly lost or damaged due to gum disease
  • If your wisdom tooth or teeth are positioned in such a way that you are unable to keep them clean or they are compromising the health of the tooth beside it.

If there is inadequate room for the tooth to properly erupt or come in to position- common with wisdom teeth.

How many appointments are needed for an extraction or oral surgery?

Typically, oral surgery is only one appointment. With regards to wisdom tooth removal, it is ideal to take them all at once and before the age of 20-25 as your bone becomes denser making the removal more difficult.
